The JKS Ethiopia Technical Commission is the supreme body responsible for ensuring technical integrity and scientific grounding. We implement advanced training protocols based on human biomechanics and physiological research.

In alignment with JKS Japan and WKF standards, the commission oversees coach education and Dan grading examinations. We are also dedicated to the development of Para-Karate programs through our principle of Inclusive Excellence.

JKS Ethiopia Technical Commission Regional Members

1. General Provisions

1.1. The Technical Commission serves as an advisory body to JKS Ethiopia on technical matters and holds specific disciplinary authority. It is accountable to the Federation’s Executive Committee and shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the President of JKS Ethiopia.

1.2. The core functions of the Commission are as follows:

  • Propose recommendations to the Executive Committee for the improvement of championship tournaments and seminars organized by JKS Ethiopia.

  • Submit modifications to the Federation based on the international principles of the Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS) and the World Karate Federation (WKF) competition rules.

  • Prepare briefings and coaching certification examinations for coaches operating under the Federation.

  • Administer written and practical examinations to coaches during the annual JKS National Championships.

  • Maintain a database of JKS Ethiopia-recognized coaches in collaboration with the Federation’s secretariat.

  • Act as a preliminary disciplinary tribunal to review and rule on disciplinary issues involving coaches, in accordance with the Federation’s Coaches Code of Conduct.

2. Composition of the Commission

2.1. The Technical Commission shall consist of a Chairperson (Senior Technical Director) and members appointed by the Executive Committee as necessary. The membership should reflect a balanced representation of various clubs and regions.

2.2. Members must be recognized by JKS Ethiopia, actively participating, and possess advanced experience in Karate techniques (holding a Black Belt/Dan rank).

2.3. While serving their term and assigned to officiate as Technical Commission members during national championships, members cannot simultaneously participate as coaches or referees.

2.4. Commission members shall be relieved of their duties if they: resign voluntarily, miss consecutive meetings without a valid reason, or if the Executive Committee decides to restructure the Commission’s composition.

3. Powers and Duties of the JKS Ethiopia Technical Commission

3.1. Report technical issues encountered during JKS Ethiopia championships and training sessions to the President or the Executive Committee.

3.2. Prepare proposals for rule modifications related to Karate techniques, Kata, and Kumite.

3.3. Coordinate seminars and training sessions to ensure a consistent technical standard across regions and clubs.

3.4. Research and propose technical strategies for Para-Karate and youth divisions for implementation.

3.5. Evaluate and grade the technical proficiency of clubs upon the request of the Executive Committee.

3.6. Investigate cases involving coaches who violate Karate-Do ethics or compromise the integrity of the Federation.

3.7. Recommend the suspension or revocation of a coach’s license or accreditation to the Federation in cases of severe disciplinary offenses.

4. Powers and Duties of the Chairperson

4.1. Preside over the Technical Commission and represent the Commission at Federation meetings.

4.2. Convene and chair regular meetings of the Commission.

4.3. Develop a Technical Roadmap to foster the Federation’s growth and present it to the Executive Committee.

4.4. Ensure the proper preparation of coaching training and examinations administered prior to national competitions.

5. Procedures and Decision-Making

5.1. The Technical Commission shall hold a regular meeting at least once every three months.

5.2. In the event of urgent matters, a meeting can be convened at any time upon the call of the Chairperson.

5.3. Any decision made by the Commission shall be valid only when supported by a majority vote of its members.

Note: This guideline shall enter into force on the date of its approval by the JKS Ethiopia Executive Committee.
